My Background
I was blessed to grow up with a family who appreciated and encouraged the arts. My Mom spent years creating with needle point, beading, and yarn work. Dad studied photography and graphic design. And my little brother filled sketch book, upon sketch book with drawings and stories. It was natural for us to discuss color theory during meals, or pause a movie to count how many light sources we could find.
During college I was immensely torn between pursuing photography and painting. They each provided such different forms for expression. Ultimately, I spent several years working as a photographer. It consumed me, and for nearly a decade I let most other forms of artistic expression fall by the wayside. It wasn't until 2016, when I moved to Washington State, that I really picked up a brush again. I still love helping document lives through a camera, but feeling the immediate connection to a piece was refreshing, and in many ways very liberating.
Currently I run my own photography business, and work at a local paint and sip studio. Gardening is my newest hobby.
For the future my general goals are to :
- loosen up and actually make things
- reconnect with my hands, color, shape, and fun
My more specific goals are to:
- make a new piece weekly
- work on a mural for the city
